The Brexit vote result was announced just a couple of hours before I was to present to an audience of law firm executives on using Emotional Intelligence to enhance leadership and team engagement and effectiveness.
The original uplifting message was swiftly changed to a ‘Deal with the reality of the Brexit result’. The reality? Externally, nobody knew what the immediate or long-term future may bring. But focus was on obstacles, not opportunities. Survival! In this brief clip I invite the leaders to lead themselves before attempting to lead their teams, to influence and control what they can influence and control – leave the rest of it, as it will simply serve to drain brains, demoralise our teams, and damage individual and collective effectiveness and performance.
